DEPOSIT SYSTEM RULES At the 2007 planning meeting in Hemet on Saturday Jan 27 Soarfari established a new deposit system that will be in place for all Soarfari events where a tow plane is arranged and flown to the event for our service. Why? Due to some unexpectedly low turnout at a few events in 2006 our wonderful tow pilots were left in the lurch without enough towing to support their ferry costs and room and board at the location. Soarfari has decided to institute a system similar to that which "DR. D" used in 2006 when he towed for another group at Tonopah. The idea is that the ferry costs and the room and board for the tow pilot will be estimated before the event. That amount will then be divided by the number of pilots who are estimated to come to the event to determine the per-pilot deposit. * If you pay but do not show up you DO NOT get a refund. That's the part that makes this work! * You can "Sell" your reservation to someone else if you can not make the event. * Full refund if the event gets cancelled before the tow plane shows up at the site. * If you do not sign up and pay in advance, but show up, you will have to pay the deposit and wait until all pre-signed pilots are towed before receiving your tows. (update 5/21/07) * If not enough people sign up in advance the event may have to be cancelled. So don't hold out because you don't want to pay in advance. Any excess deposit fees will go toward your tow costs. If more people show up, everyone gets more toward their tows. If some people do not show up then the tow pilot costs are still covered, but there may still be some excess that can go toward your tow costs. EXAMPLE: Dr. D used this system for Tonopah last year (from Paul Robinson) Do not know the number of people signed up.... The deposit requirement was $150. Of that $78 was eventually applied toward tow costs. So only $72 actually was incurred as an additional cost for tow pilot ferry fees, which made the event possible!
