Lone Pine , CA   O26  Friday August 31 - Monday September 3 2007

A four day Labor Day weekend event

Latest update 07/23/2008

Dan Gonzalez  is the event honcho for Soarfari Event 4, which for 2007 is a four day weekend visit to Lone Pine, California. This is a popular Soarfari site lending itself well to jumping right up onto either the Sierras or the Inyo Mountains on either side of the Owens Valley.

Jeff Campbell from Telluride Soaring has agreed to tow for us at Lone Pine. Jeff will also be towing for Soarfari at Tonopah.  Deposit rules will apply to this event. Currently Jeff is planning to ferry in on August 31 and out on September 3, so don't count on an early tow on August 31. Tow fees will be the same as for Tonopah with Jeff towing. $50.00 (minimum) for 2000 foot and then $1.00 per hundred thereafter.

NEW>> FEE for this event is $150. Same drill as for Tonopah. A Maximum of 13 signups will be accepted for this event. 12 have signed up as of August 20.  Send your money to Dan Gonzalez  19965 Grand Ave.  Lake Elsinore, CA 92530

Lone Pine Airport has been notified of our planned arrival and they have indicated that they will mow the dirt strip for us. Still working on assuring that the vegetation along the taxiway will be cut. Camping on the airport will be $12/day. Tie Down fee will be $6/day. There was a weekly fee which may reduce the per day total if you stay long enough to make it worthwhile (probably not for a four day trip).

Relations with the Lone Pine Airport management were strained in 2005, when newer rules they put in place were not adhered to closely by our group. We did pretty well with the rules in 2006. DOWNLOAD, READ, PRINT OUT and bring a copy with you of the LonePineRules.pdf document and follow airport rules while at Lone Pine! Note the rule for a FLASHING BEACON LIGHT on your tow vehicle any time you are driving on the taxiway at the airport...get one before you come...

You can contact Dan Gonzalez for more information.

AIRNAV airport info for Lone Pine and some local lodging information may be found at at http://www.airnav.com/airport/O26 Check other sources for hotels as there are quite a few choices in Lone Pine, although this IS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND and LONE PINE WILL FILL UP EARLY. Especially if you want several days in a row. Best Western Frontier hotel is adjacent to the airport (you can walk).
