A four day Labor Day weekend event

Latest update 07/24/2008

August 29-Sept 1  (Friday through Monday)  Lone Pine, CA. for 4-day Labor Day Weekend.

Doug Levy  is the event honcho for Soarfari Event 4, which for 2008 is a four day weekend visit to Lone Pine, California. This is a popular Soarfari site lending itself well to jumping right up onto either the Sierras or the Inyo Mountains on either side of the Owens Valley.

There is NOT oxygen on the field, so be sure and fill up when you can.

Some notes:
* Safety is paramount. Having fun is next, but mandatory.
* All towing vehicles should have a radio on board tuned to the airport freq.

* Use caution when crossing the dirt strip for possible landing aircraft not on freq.
* The air ambulance uses Lone Pine quite frequently, so lets give this guy lots of room and accommodate where ever we can. The heli pad, at times, can get busy too.
* Please announce early when planning to land, it can get busy at the end of the day.
* Both runways are available for landing.
* Pay your tie down fees at the office. For only four days, daily is cheaper
* If the weather agrees with our timing, we all should have some great flights.

Deposit rules apply to this event.

Standard costs at Lone Pine are:  (2007 values) Camping on the airport will be $12/day. Tie Down fee will be $6/day. There was a weekly fee which may reduce the per day total if you stay long enough to make it worthwhile (probably not for a four day trip).

Relations with the Lone Pine Airport management were strained in 2005, when newer rules they put in place were not adhered to closely by our group. We did pretty well with the rules in 2006. DOWNLOAD, READ, PRINT OUT and bring a copy with you of the LonePineRules.pdf document and follow airport rules while at Lone Pine! Note the rule for a FLASHING BEACON LIGHT on your tow vehicle any time you are driving on the taxiway at the airport...get one BEFORE you come...

You can contact Doug Levy for more information.

AIRNAV airport info for Lone Pine and some local lodging information may be found at at http://www.airnav.com/airport/O26 Check other sources for hotels as there are quite a few choices in Lone Pine, although this IS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND and LONE PINE WILL FILL UP EARLY. Especially if you want several days in a row. Best Western Frontier hotel is adjacent to the airport (you can walk).
