Parowan, Utah, 1L9             Last Update 04/11/2011

June 5-11, 2009 (Friday-Thursday) Parowan has an on-site tow service available. There is no limit to the number of attendees since we are not bringing our own tow plane, and no limited sign up is required. But Please sign up and let the Honcho know if you are coming though!

NEW>>Here is a copy of a list of Parowan area "potential" landing sites and "Potentially dangerous" landing sites. There are no directions to these sites, hopefully they are on your map, and it's a few years old, so reader beware, but if all else fails it could be useful, especially to know the potentially dangerous ones.

Honcho: John Medley is the event honcho for Soarfari Event 2 for 2009 is a week-long visit to Parowan Airport in Southwest Utah. Soarfari will have exclusive use of HANGAR 3 during our week at Parowan. Hangar 3 is directly across from the RV parking area, and only a couple hangars down from the restroom/shower building. It has tables, chairs, ELECTRICITY, AV equipment if desired, and can be locked and controlled by Soarfari during our stay. So you can hang out in the shade and safely leave your batteries and equipment in there overnight to charge! Sorry, no plane or trailer storage in Hangar 3.

RV parking area across from hangar 3 will cost $5.00/day, or $15.00/day if you want an electrical hookup. You will pay Dave or Becky at the airport office directly for this. Advanced reservations not usually needed, and not expected for this event.

Parowan has grown in recent years to be a Spring and early Summer destination for pilots from all over the world, and many groups have scheduled camps at Parowan this year. It is advised to not plan to go to Parowan during these other events, as ramp space and tow service may not be available to you. As of Feb 1, 2009 the known Parowan soaring camps are:

Soarfari June 5-11<<this is our slot this year at Parowan. June is the best month at Parowan as monsoonal flow can be strong during the later summer months. It may be acceptable to stay a little later, overlapping the 1-26 group, as long as their attendance is not huge.

1-26 Group June 12-14 - You  might be able to stay along with this group if their attendance is not too large, but they have priority

Auxiliary Powered Sailplane Association June 15-25 (very large group, you won't want to be here during that event)

Region 9 Contest June 28 - July 4 -NOBODY WILL BE ALLOWED at Parowan unless your are part of the Region 9 Contest this week

1-26 Group July 25-27

Please contact the Parowan airport to clarify the situation there before you go separately from one of these camps.

Tow plane: Currently a Cessna 150, 150 HP on-site, This is not the strongest towplane for use on heavy ships, large ships, or water ballasted ships, as the airport elevation is 5930 MSL and it can be HOT. Occasionally additional tow planes are brought in to help for large groups (e.g., Region 9 Contest). John Templeton MIGHT be able to show up that week and support our tows with Maule Tow!
